The Full Story

Speed, strength, coordination, discipline

We founded Victoria Fencing and Fitness Program with one goal in mind: giving our students the best, most rewarding learning experience.

Victoria Fencing and Fitness Program is located in Camas, WA and reflects the vibrant energy of the area. Our passionate and skilled fencing coach, Julia Tikhonova, is here to help students achieve their goals. Are you ready to reach your potential? Join us today!

Victoria Fencing Program presents the fencing program in Camas:
Students will be introduced to learning the skills of attacking and defending with a fencing weapon called "Foil". Fencers develop good coordination, balance, flexibility and self discipline which makes this training an ideal means of keeping fit for all ages and abilities. Our training progression starts with teaching the student foot-work and basic fencing moments. Once the student develops a general understanding of these movements, the student is taught a series of fencing drills combined with open fencing with other students to apply the lessons learned. The final stage consists of teaching tactics and strategy for set competitive situations.
Equipment is available to borrow in limited amount and sizes. Equipment purchase is recommended. Contact the instructor for more info.

The Instructor: Julia Tikhonova - 2X Israeli Champion, 3X Div 1 all American and NCAA 2008 Champion as a team.

Fencing at School, Camas WA

Why Fencing?

Fencing is an athletic extracurricular activity that reduces student at-risk behaviors, increases the students’ physical health, and positively affects the student’s social and psychological development.  It is well documented that students who spend no time in extracurricular activities are 49% more likely to use drugs and 37% more likely to become teen parents than those who spend one to four hours per week in extracurricular activities (U.S. Dept. of Education, 2002).  Further school fencing clubs:

  • Provide vigorous exercise which promotes general fitness.

  • Involves all ages which means exercise and fun for all.

  • Teaches discipline – fencing requires the practice and learning of specific movements, tactics and strategies.

  • Develops coordination – fencing requires fluidity of motion similar to dance.

  • Teaches concentration – fencing demands focus and attention.

  • Fosters intelligence – fencers have the highest GPA of all sports.

  • Fencing teaches civility and respect – fencing demands the adherence to a strict tradition of honor and sportsmanship.

  • Facility and season – Almost any indoor, non-slip floor is suitable for holding classes and fencing is an all-year-round activity.

  • Safety record – Fencing’s safety record is equivalent to golf.

  • Olympic Sport – Fencing is one of the oldest Olympic Sports with unlimited competitive possibilities.

  • NCAA Sport – Fencing is an NCAA college sport with many university varsity teams and full scholarships available.
