Julia Tikhonova

Professional Fencing Instructor

Julia founded the Victoria Fencing and Fitness program in 2014 and have been teaching fencing classes since then. Julia also is a National Fencing Referee while continue competing on a local, regional and national level - Division 1 tournaments.

Julia was born in USSR (today the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan) and moved to Israel at the age of 9 years old. Julia started her fencing career in the city of Haifa, Israel as a foil fencer. After making the national team of Israel and competing internationally, graduating from high school, and completing the Israeli required military service, Julia was recruited by The Ohio State University on a full-fencing scholarship in 2006.


Some of her results include:

  • 2-times Israeli National Champion

  • 6-times member of the Israeli National Team

  • Ranked top 23 in a world rating in 2004

  • 2nd place in Junior World Cup in 2004

  • 8th place in Junior world Cup in 2005

  • Top 5 in NCAA in 2007 (individual event)

  • NCAA Champion in 2008 (team event)

  • 3-times NCAA All-American (The Ohio State University)

  • 3-times Midwestern Collegiate Conference Champion

  • Top 8 in Senior NAC (North American Cup)

  • Nominated by head coach and athletic committee as one of the top five finalists for the OSU Women’s Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor 2010

  • Honored at the annual NCAA Day of Champions ceremony at the White House.

What’s your superpower?
Camas resident Julia Tikhonova enjoys asking that question to her students, because she credits fencing — a skill she considers to be a superpower — for nearly everything good that’s happened in her life.
